Course Content and Aims

Whatever your reason for attending a Trade-Ability plastering course, we guarantee you won't be disappointed. You will receive your Trade-Ability certificate with a sense of achievement and pride.Your certificate will outline the completion of the following objectives stated below:

Have an understanding of:

• The different types of plaster mix and on what surfaces to use them.
• The different types of render mix and how to apply them.
• Tools of the trade.

Be able to:

• Cut and fix plaster board to walls and ceilings with screws, nails and dabs.
• Scrim Tape standard and internal joints.
• Correctly cut and fix angle beads (preformed metal sections used to strengthen corners of walls, windows & reveals).
• Mix plastering materials to achieve the best possible consistency.
• Apply plaster to the wall practicing angles of trowel applications to achieve the best possible finish on wet & drying plaster.
• Prepare surfaces before plastering using bonding plaster and finishing plaster, ensuring a flat finish is achieved ready for decorating.
• Repair damaged plaster to make good.
• Apply PVA adhesive Unibond to existing surfaces.
• Skim + Re-skim walls.
• Skim + Re-skim Ceilings.
• Ergonomically work an area for maximum efficiency.
• Render Internal walls using a Hardwall mix.
• Render external walls using a sand and cement mix.

End of course handouts will logically go through your syllabus. Therefore, you'll be able to use them as a step by step guide to remind you of the procedures when you start plastering on your own.

This is a hands on practical course so wear overalls or old clothing in case of that odd spillage and be prepared to have some fun!

There are many myths regarding the art of plastering. Trade-Ability has developed a fool proof training system that will shed light on these so called myths. In fact, by the end of this course you will be able to stand back to proudly admire your handy work and you will ask yourself "what's the big deal?" Comments such as "I would pay for that" or "I'd be more than happy with that in my own home" are always stated by our students.

DIY

If you need to repair damaged walls or tidy up tired walls, then this course will suit you down to the ground. You will learn all you need to know to confidently tackle those jobs that have been longing for your attention. What is more, the money paid to learn this lifelong skill would equate to the cost of bringing in a

tradesman to skim 1-2 rooms. Therefore, the investment you have made with Trade-Ability is simply the cost of a "room re-skim" A fact that shouldn't be overlooked by the budding property developer.

Forces Resettlement

50% of our clientele are Service Leavers whom normally carry out multiple courses as part of their Resettlement grant. If you are in your resettlement period, your Standard Learning Credit may also be utilised. We are ideally located within 30 minutes of many RAF camps in Lincolnshire and fall under a radius of under 50 miles for Army camps around Nottingham and south Yorkshire.
