Course Content and Aims

Whatever your reason for attending a Trade-Ability Bricklaying course, you won't be disappointed. You will receive your Trade-Ability certificate with a sense of achievement and pride.Your certificate will outline the completion of the following objectives stated below:

Have an understanding of:

• How to calculate the number of bricks needed per square metre of wall surface.
• How to calculate mortar quantities.
• What equipment is required and how to use it.
• The correct use of ties in cavity walling, pillars and piers
• Stretcher Bond,English Bond,Flemish Bond,English Garden Wall Bond
• Cut bricks correctly (bat, Half bat, Quarter bat)
• Structual footings and foundations.

Be able to:

• Build a return wall with cavity, DPC, wall ties, window, lintel and Soldier course.
• Construct a 9 inch Garden wall with decorative face work
• Point face work
• Build a Radius in brickwork

A comprehensive set of handouts are issued on all aspects of the course and can be used as a step by step guide when you start work on your own.

This is a hands on practical course so wear overalls or old clothing and be prepared to have some fun!

We also offer an after care policy where you can call us if you get into difficulties and advise can be sought.

For the enthusiastic DIYer, the Trade-Ability Bricklaying course will give you an invaluable skill that can be utilised around the garden and home. You will surprise yourself come the end of the course at the level of competence you will have achieved! It may put you in the frame of mind to diversify even more. We appreciate an accomplished bricklayer is not born overnight or after only 5 days, that takes years of practice. However, if you are considering a career in this industry you probably don't want to commit years on a college course to find out it really isn't for you! Forces Resettlement

50% of our clientele are Service Leavers whom normally carry out multiple courses as part of their Resettlement grant. If you are in your resettlement period, your Standard Learning Credit may also be utilised.

We are ideally located within 30 minutes of many RAF camps in Lincolnshire and fall under a radius of under 50 miles for Army camps around Nottingham and south Yorkshire.
